In the Auvergne dialect, "bailero" is a shepherd's call. The Auvergne region itself is a high plateau of green, rolling hills; in summer a land of skylarks, butterflies and wild flowers. The 'sense of place' all comes through in the lilting strains of this beautiful folk song. The steel band accompaniment with its gentle echoing phrases puts the finishing touches on this unique musical landscape.

2-Part Invention is a marvelous program piece, a gem from the amazing musical treasure chest created by this one man, this genius. His soaring melodies and his manipulation of short musical phrases by inversions, by modulation and sequential repetition offer a unique opportunity for your players to understand Bach's concept of musical form. The individual musical lines move freely but always seem to fit together perfectly. It has been said that to fully appreciate the music of Bach, one must play it. So, we say "pass out the parts" and have a wonderful musical experience.
